STUDENTS from the different universities and colleges in Dagupan City were visibly inspired by the high caliber speakers during the first ICT-BPM conference with industry executive that coincided with the launching of the ICT-BPM Roadmap, hosted by the city on July 22 at CSI Stadia.

The students participated in the conference designed to prepare Dagupan for the establishment of the city’s ICT-Business Process Management Industry.

Led by Jonathan De Luzurriaga, president of the Philippine Software Industry Association, other speakers included lawyer Jocelle Sigue, trustee of the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines; Paul Tajon, senior investment specialist; Alvin Juban, president of the Game Developers Association of the Philippines; Natalie Hunter, executive director of the Philippine Software Industry Association; Maricar Magpili of the Department of Information and Communications Technology; and Katheryne Gutierrez of Health Information Management of the Philippines.

The conference served also as an avenue for the students to showcase their talents  and improve their quality of life.

“I cannot wait for that day to come when Dagupeños no longer need to go outside of our city to seek work,” said Mayor Belen T. Fernandez.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology has observed that the city and the rest of Pangasinan are producing at least half of the region’s higher education graduates yearly.

With the roadmap in place, the city hopes to get a share of the $25 billion dollar industry of the United States of America and create 5,000 direct jobs locally  in the next three years.

“I will make sure that your local government will utilize its available resources to strengthen your linkages to the industry, keeping you abreast of trends and to provide an environment where the academic community, industry players and the LGU can freely collaborate. If we succeed, we might even extend this opportunity to other Pangasinenses because of the enormous job generation potentials of this industry,” disclosed Mayor Fernandez when she spoke before the students during the conference.
