P’sinan to lodge one of first prov’l Tech4ED hubs in PH

Lingayen – In pursuit of possibilities to make informative learning as well as library services within the reach of more Pangasinenses, Capitol will open its doors for one of the first provincial cyber-education hubs in the country on July 28.

Ma. Cynthia Encarnita F. Vila, provincial librarian, in an interview Monday, bared that she and Governor Amado “Pogi” I. Espino, III have met with representatives from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to bring the Technical Education for Economic Development (Tech4ED) program to the province.

“The governor is very supportive of our programs to cascade informative learning to people from all walks of life and this is a great example of that,” she said.

A part of the Provincial Library building has been prepared to make way for the one-and-a-half day Tech4ED hub training on July 27-28 before being formally launched to use on the afternoon of July 28.

Gov. Espino will lead the inauguration of the center, along with Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. and representatives from DOST and DICT.

The Tech4ED program aims to empower public libraries as an access point to bridge digital and education divide.

Meanwhile, the Pangasinan Provincial Library stages its Children’s Book Week celebration from July 18-22 at the Provincial Library, Capitol Compound here with the theme “Explore an ocean of books!”

Six kid-friendly tilts are spread on the five-day event for pre-school and grade school pupils: Fishball Craft, July 18; Fishbook page, July 19; Bookquarium, July 20; poster-making contest and interpretative reading, July 21; and “Are You Ready” quiz show, July 22; along with a book fair by partner American publisher Scholastic Inc.

Vila said that the event was mounted to draw children again to reading books from electronic entertainment.

She said that more programs are in store to make quality reads accessible to the youngsters especially the underprivileged under the administration of Gov. Espino.

In its accomplishment report for the first six months of this year, the Office of the Provincial Library has reported to have serviced 18,671 readers, higher than the twelve month tally of 15,959 in 2015. /Rex Marion C. Laguerta
