THE Dagupan City government facilitated another dialogue between some 500 informal settlers in Barangay Pugaro and  the family that owns the 5,000 hectare  lot they are occupying for the orderly transfer of ownership of  the area by the latter.

Randy Soriano, representative of the Soriano family that owns the lot, was joined by representatives of the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC).

SHFC is the lead government agency tasked to undertake financing of social housing programs catering to formal and informal sectors in the low-income bracket and takes charge of developing and administering social housing program schemes.

“The Soriano family has taken into consideration the welfare of the people and we do not want them to be displaced and so we decided on selling the land to them under the Social Housing program of the government,” said Soriano.

In helping the families achieve a win-win solution with the SHFC, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez promised to review the proceedings for the acquisition of the lot under the scheme together with the City Administrator, City Assessors Office and the city’s legal team possibly under a more beneficial interest rate.

Another dialogue is scheduled next week among the parties.  (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
