Baniqued, Velasco reappointed to Capitol

LINGAYEN- The 9th Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), has confirmed the reappointment of two provincial government department heads: Atty. Geraldine Baniqued as the Provincial Legal Officer (PLO) and Orpheus Velasco as the Provincial Information Officer (PIO).

The SP resolutions confirming the appointment of Baniqued and Velasco noted, “After careful examination, scrutiny, and review of the qualifications, records, and experiences of the recommendee, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan finds the appointment meritorious and therefore interposes no objection to said appointment.”

As provided by Section 463, par. (d) of Republic Act No. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991, “heads of departments and offices shall be appointed by the local chief executive with the concurrence of the majority of all members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.”

Baniqued started working as PLO for the provincial government since 1998, and have won for the province several revenue cases, thus improving the revenue collection of the province.

She added that her office has handled cases of erring employees “inspiring employees of the provincial government to do their duties better.”

Velasco, who has served PIO since 2008, during the first term of ex-Gov. Amado Espino Jr., said his office has been maximizing the use of social media for information dissemination. (Johanne R. Macob)
