6,230 DRUG USERS, PUSHERS SURRENDER

PERFORM or be relieved!

This was the warning issued by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office to police chiefs in the province who are deemed not doing enough to eradicate illegal drugs in their jurisdiction.

P/Police Supt. Jackie Candelario, Police Community Relations Office head, said P/Sr. Superintendent Ronald Oliver Lee, acting-provincial director, issued the warning and the challenge to all chiefs of police to intensify their campaign against illegal drugs during the command conference held last week.

He said Lee will order the immediate relief of anyone who fails to deliver results as expected from them.

CARTOONnews 160724The province’s police chiefs presented their weekly accomplishments on illegal drugs campaign plan in their respective areas.

The PPPO said the top 10 cities and municipalities that have been active in drug operations are: Mangatarem, Urdaneta, Dagupan, Mangaldan, San Fabian, Bayambang, Calasiao, Alaminos, Lingayen and Bani.

Meanwhile, Lee reported 6,230 drug personalities in Pangasinan have surrendered to the police and local government officials under Oplan Tokhang (knock and plead) being conducted across the province.

“So far, there are no negative reactions yet from people whose houses the police operatives have subjected to Oplan Tokhang,” Lee said but he noted not one of those who surrendered turned over their supply of illegal drugs.

Lee added that they are surprised as the number of surrenderees has reached more than 6,000 while those listed under the BADAC watch list was only more than 3,000.

Lee said that as of July 21, the police, with barangay officials, non-government organization and religious sector members, have already knocked on the doors of 4,426 houses of suspected drug personalities.

There were 159 total drug operations conducted from July 1 to 21 that included buy-bust operations and implementation of search warrants. This resulted in the arrest of 194 persons, with 198.12 grams of shabu and 26.12 grams of marijuana seized, he said.

The amount of illegal drugs confiscated was about P1,293,725.59, Lee said.

More than 200 drug pushers have also surrendered, he said.

Lee emphasized that a surrender “should not be used as a badge to protect them from being arrested if they are found doing again illegal drugs activities”.

Lee said Pangasinan has the highest number of drug surrenderees in the region due to its big population.

P/Supt. Jackie Candelario, deputy police director for operations, said there are still those who refuse to surrender despite the knock and plead of the police.

“When we go to their house, we just give them warning as their names are included in the Barangay Anti-Abuse Coordinating Council (BADAC),” Candelario said.

Lee, however, pointed out that they still cannot confirm if the supply of illegal drugs has decreased as a result of the campaign.

“There are still who continue to ply their illegal activities,” he said, “but the police are always on the look-out.”

Meanwhile, Lee said part of Oplan Tokhang is internal cleansing of the police.

“We want to rid our rank with misfits or rotten eggs,” Lee said. (Tita Roces /Nora Dominguez)
