51 drug personalities in Binmaley surrender
BINMALEY—Fifty-one suspected drug users and pushers in this town surrendered en masse Monday to the mayor and the town police.
Mayor Simplicio Rosario told them, ‘We’re here to help you. The Duterte government is very strict with drugs and that’s the reason why he won.”
Last week, 24 self-confessed drug users and pushers in this town surrendered to the mayor and the local police as well.
He assured them he would help them in their rehabilitation phase at the government-owned Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Dagupan City once their status is verified.
He warned, however, that their surrender is not a guarantee they are already off- the-hook for whatever crime or violation of the law they committed, at the same time, their activities will be monitored by the police continuously to ensure that they are rehabilitated.
“My instruction to our police chief, P/Supt. Mona Liza Asis, is if they (drug pushers) resist arrest, shoot them,” Rosario said, echoing the presidential directive.
“Really change is coming so you should change now,” he intoned.
Meanwhile, Asis assured the drug users and pushers that the police will do all to help them reform.
The police chief said lectures on moral recovery will be given and alternative livelihood opportunities will be offered with the help of the local government.
The delisting of those who surrendered from the watch list will depend on the regular evaluation of their rehabilitation by the police.
She said another batch of drug personalities is expected to surrender on July 15. Those who will still refuse to surrender will be the subject of “Oplan Tokhang”and will be visited at their homes for final warning.
She also warned that those who surrendered should not use it as a cover-up to hide their continued involvement in illegal drugs, as user or pusher.
Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Jeffrey Catungal administered their pledges and the signing of affidavits to support the anti-illegal program of government. (Tita Roces)
