WAR VS ILLEGAL DRUGS

LINGAYEN—Two elected mayors expressed full support for President-elect Rody Duterte’s hardline campaign against drug syndicates.

Re-elected Binmaley Mayor Simplicio Rosario and and newly elected Calasiao Mayor Joseph Arman Bauzon agreed that the “shoot-to-kill” order will be effective in curbing the illegal drug trade.

Mr. Rosario, however, qualified his support for the President’s order expressing a need for Congress to sanction it. But anticipating a favorable response from Congress, he already ordered the town’s barangay chairmen to submit the lists of drug personalities to his office.

On the other hand, Mr. Bauzon said he is in favor with the kind of leadership that Mr. Duterte will provide.

“I think our country needs what he is doing, bringing back fear (to the authority) especially among the criminals, thus we support him”, said Bauzon.

Both urged the public to “give Duterte the benefit of the doubt and support him.”

The two mayors made the remarks during the Breakfast Club at the President Hotel last week. (Hilda Austria)
