Pope appoints Mangalinao as auxiliary bishop

LINGAYEN-DAGUPAN ARCHDIOCESE

DAGUPAN CITY— Pope Francis has appointed Msgr. Elmer Mangalinao as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan.

The Pope made the announcement at 12:00 noon last Tuesday at the Vatican (6:00pm, Manila time), report from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) news site said.

Prior to his appointment, Mangalinao, 56, was the vicar general of the Cabanatuan diocese, president of the College of the Immaculate Conception in Cabanatuan City and School Cluster Head of Sacred Heart School of Talavera and Our Lady of Fatima, Gen. Natividad.

As auxiliary bishop, he will assist the archdiocese’s chief shepherd, Archbishop Socrates Villegas, in his governance of the archdiocese.

No date has been set for Mangalinao’s episcopal ordination.

The Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan has been without an auxiliary bishop since December 2012 after Msgr. Renato Mayugba was installed bishop of Laoag. (Eva Visperas)
