More minors nabbed as drug pushers, couriers

LINGAYEN—The Pangasinan police has been arresting more minors than usual in its campaign against illegal drugs.

P/Sr. Supt. Edgar Alan Okubo, officer-in-charge police director, gave the observation as the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) is preparing for more vigorous and intensified plan of action consistent with the all-out war campaign against illegal drugs by incoming president Rodrigo Duterte.

The youngest drug courier arrested was a 12-year old boy from Anolid, Mangaldan where the town police confiscated from him 24.7 grams of shabu on April 6.

A 16-year old boy from Poblacion West, Asingan town was also arrested on April 20 with 48.99 grams of shabu caught from his possession.

A 15-year old boy was also nabbed by combined police elements of Mangaldan and Manaoag Police Stations and seized from him 22 grams of shabu on May 16.

Meanwhile, the PPPO’s anti-illegal drugs campaign has resulted in the arrest of 439 suspected illegal drug pushers, some of them government employees and elected officials across the province, from January to June 5 this year, records at the provincial police office showed.

“Our campaign against illegal drugs spares no one. Our crackdown applies to all,” Okubo said, citing their accomplishments.

Of the 439 suspected pushers nabbed, 17 are listed under top 10 suspected pushers in different towns/cities and another 29 under drugs watch list.

A former policeman was collared by Dagupan City police elements on March 9 in Bonuan Tondaligan and confiscated from him 0.705 grams of shabu.

Some government employees in illegal drugs are now behind bars including a municipal aide of the vice mayor of Malasiqui town who was arrested with 14.38 grams of shabu in his possession on March 12.

Combined municipal and provincial police elements and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group had arrested the barangay captains of San Isidro and San Jose and a municipal councilor, all in San Nicolas town and a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology member on March 23 and seized from them 5.7 grams of shabu in an operation in Barangay D, Tayug town.

Okubo said 490 cases have been filed in court against the arrested suspects from January to June 5 this year.

The combined illegal drugs seized by the 44 town and four city police stations totaled 408.734 grams of shabu worth P2,656,771 and 325.171 grams of marijuana worth P24,387.825 in the 325 operations conducted.

Last year covering the same period, the Pangasinan police arrested 426 suspected drug personalities and seized 707.07 grams of shabu and 699.99 grams of marijuana with a combined amount of P4,648,882.88. There were 458 cases filed in court during the said period.

For the entire period of 2015, there were 1,224 drug pushers nabbed across Pangasinan. (Tita Roces)
