DAGUPAN’S NEVER-ENDING OPERATIONS

WHILE some 68 illegal fish pens here were recently demolished by the Task Force Bantay Ilog (TFBI), it appears the complete clearing of the rivers of illegal pens still cannot be achieved as mandated by the city ordinance.

Maximo Solis operations leader, confirmed this in an interview with Bombo Radyo Dagupan as he maintained that the demolition of illegal structures in the river system of the city is continuing.

Solis said since 2014 at least 396 fish pens were already demolished as ordered by Mayor Belen Fernandez.

“Some of the remaining structures will soon be removed as well, we are just waiting for them to harvest”, said Solis.

However, he admitted some of the illegal fish pen owners take advantage of the grace period being given them.

“Recently, a fish pen owner harvested what was supposed to be the last harvest in that pen for demolition, but we discovered he again put in new fingerlings. We don’t know anymore how to deal with them,” said Solis.

He added some would even reconstruct their structures after their demolition in the area.

Most of the structures are situated in the island barangays of Pugaro, Salapingao and Lucao. (Hilda Austria)
