MORE than 50 young school achievers who will compose the new batch of ‘Manlingkor ya Kalangweran’ (MYK) for 2016 underwent a three-day leadership training at Belen’s Hall, West Central 1 Elementary School on June 7-9 before they are deployed in different government offices and agencies on July 1-8 to perform their duties as young officers.

‘Manlingkor ya Kalangweran’ is a unique leadership program of the city for outstanding young students to inspire them to be conscious of, and aspire for ideals that would make them as outstanding leaders in government, business, and in many other fields of endeavor.

“A fitting recognition on the role of young people in preparing them for the tasks of leading the community when the time comes for them to inherit the leadership of the city,” said Mayor Fernandez when she visited them on June 8, during their training as she extends her invitation to them and join her when she takes her oath as city mayor on her second term.

The three-day leadership training of the MYK focuses on house rules, dynamic of leadership, 10 ways to master leadership skills, six lessons learned from Mother Theresa, and parliamentary procedures.

The MYK is under the direct supervision of the Dagupan City Schools Division headed by Schools Division Superintendent Froserfina J. Bravo through Education Program Supervisor Liezl S. Cancino.

The training’s resource speakers were Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Lourdes D. Servito, Juanito M. Villanueva, Gary B. Desoloc, Cristina C. Aquino, Marckoni F. Taroma, Catherine B. Cornel, Augusto Mejia, DILG City Director Rhoderick M. Dawis and lawyer Michael Datario.

MYK was one of the key factors that made the city earn the Presidential Award for the Seal of Child-Friendly City for two consecutive years in the national and regional levels for the first time under the term of Mayor Fernandez. (Joseph C. Bacani)
