WAR VS ILLEGAL DRUGS

LINGAYEN—Here’s good news at the frontline in the war vs. illegal drugs.

The number of minors arrested in buy-bust operations in Pangasinan has dramatically decreased by 75 percent from January to June 5 this year.

Last year, 12 minors who were suspected drug couriers/pushers were arrested while only three young teens have so far been nabbed for the same offense.

The bad news? The Provincial Police Office’s report showed that the volume of shabu seized from them was 888.63 per cent higher than last year.

But while only three were nabbed, the volume of shabu seized from them totaled 95.7 grams more from last year’s record of seized shabu from minors.

Report gathered from Senior Supt. Edgar Alan Okubo, acting police director, identified the youngest arrested minor as a 12-year old boy through a buy-bust operation.

He was arrested by elements of Mangaldan Police Station on April 6 in Barangay Anolid who seized from him 24.7 grams of shabu.

A 16-year old boy from Poblacion West, Asingan town was also arrested on April 20 with 48.99 grams of shabu caught from his possession.

A 15-year old boy was also nabbed by combined police elements of Mangaldan and Manaoag Police Stations and seized from him 22 grams of shabu on May 16.

In the 2015, the 12 minors arrested included a 12-year old boy, a 13-year old, a 15-year old male, four aged 16, and five were 17 years old. Three of the arrested minors were females.

The total volume of shabu seized from them weighed 9.68 grams only.

The arrests last year were made by policemen in Binmaley, San Fabian, Dagupan City, Alaminos City, Manaoag, Villasis, San Jacinto and Sta. Barbara. (Tita Roces)
