Dengue cases up by 35%

LINGAYEN—Some 755 dengue cases were already recorded by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) from January to June 6 this year, 35% higher than the 558 cases recorded over the same period last year.

The peak of dengue cases this year started in January with 358 victims and hit the lowest number so far in May with 66 cases.

The municipalities and cities with highest cases are Asingan (68), Malasiqui (44), Bayambang (41), San Carlos City (36), Pozorrubio (35), Calasiao (34), San Manuel 34), Lingayen (26), Manaoag (22), Mangaldan (22), San Fabian (20), Sta. Maria (20) and Binmaley (18).

Most of the victims are between ten to fourteen years old with 164 in number and are usually male with 397 from the total number of victims.

Three casualties were already reported, a 7-month old from Calasiao, 6-year old from Urdaneta City and an 11-year old from Malasiqui.

Meanwhile, leptospirosis cases decreased by six percent, from sixteen last year compared to fifteen this year from January to June 6.

However, the casualties increased from one last year to three this year.

Casualties were a 28-year-old construction worker from San Nicolas, 34-year-old construction worker from Tayug and a 65-year-old farmer from Manaoag.

Most of the victims were from Sual, Tayug, Bani, Bayambang, Manaoag, San Jacinto, San Nicolas, Sta. Barbara, Aguilar and Alaminos City, mostly males between 25 to 29 years old. (Hilda Austria)
