CAMPAIGN sorties can be hazardous to one’s health, and not necessarily due to the usual violence but from exhaustion and the heat from the sun.

A re-electionist municipal councilor in Labrador died of heart attack due to fatigue from campaigning.

In a belated report from the town police, Antonio “Tony” Ferrer, 68, resident of Barangay Poblacion and an LP candidate here died on April 24.

Shortly after Ferrer arrived home from a campaign sortie, the family found him slumped on his bed.

He was immediately rushed to Nazarene Hospital in Lingayen town but he was declared dead on arrival.

The victim had a lingering heart illness.

A week earlier, re-electionist Mangaldan Councilor Alfred Soriano, also of the Liberal Party, died reportedly due to heatstroke due to intense summer heat and rigors of the campaign. He was seeking his third term.

Soriano was rushed to a hospital after he felt dizzy and collapsed during a campaign sortie in Barangay Alitaya. (Tita Roces)
