MBTF: Opposition peddled lies

MAYOR Belen Fernandez laughed off the disinformation being peddled by her political detractors that she almost lost to Celia Lim, BSL Team’s candidate for mayor when votes for them were tallied.

“The truth is, since I was unopposed after my lone opponent backed out weeks before the election, I only needed one vote to secure my proclamation,” said Fernandez.

The same situation, she said, applied to Second District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil who was unopposed. He was proclaimed by the Provincial Board of Canvassers on the night of May 9 while the canvassing of votes in his district was going on.

She told newsmen that being unopposed, she no longer campaigned and only campaigned for his partymates.

“The votes tallied for were largely a result of campaign by the opposition to simply embarrass me, advising voters to no longer vote for me and instead vote for Mrs. Celia Lim since I was already unopposed,” Ms. Fernandez pointed out.

That, she said, coupled with the opposition candidates’ ‘pakurong’ on the eve of the elections, were part of the shameful dirty trick to embarrass her.

She said her Liberal Party still holds the majority in the city council and expressed her wish that all those in the opposition will cooperate with her administration so that they can deliver the best service expected of them by the people of Dagupan.

“We all owe out mandate from the people and we must serve them to the best that we can.” Ms. Fernandez said.

The mayor cited pending projects that need urgent action particularly the need for more school buildings to be used by the incoming senior high schools, some road elevation projects as well as an evacuation center funded under the Bottoms Up Budgeting in Barangay Dalapingao. (Leonardo Micua)
