THE Leonard Cheshire Disability Philippines Foundation Inc. (LCDPFI), in partnership with the city government, recently provided assistance for livelihood of persons with disabilities.

LCDPFI, a national disability-focused organization working for the promotion and protection of the rights of people with disabilities in the Philippines, initiates programs for the attainment of educational equality, economic independence, full participation and inclusion of PWDs in social, cultural, political and civil life.

Francis D. Matibag, LCDPFI’S database and communications officer, said the economic empowerment program’s core activities include inclusive education, young voices and economic empowerment.

“We would like to promote a learning environment where children with or without disabilities are taught in school together; that awareness and advocacy campaign on the rights of PWDs are conveyed through music, arts, dances and short films; and to overcome the barriers the PWDs face in finding gainful employment by providing access to job information, career counseling, guidance, development trainings, referred for work placement, livelihoods assistance and other support services,” said Matibag.

The city, under the leadership of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, has created the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office to look after the welfare of the PWDs in the city.

The office is headed by Josephine S. De Vera, Social Welfare Assistant as Coordinator. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
