DSWD launches anti-abuse program for the elderly

TO protect the rights of the elderly against all forms of abuse, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Region 1 has launched a local reporting mechanism and referral system for detecting and preventing such abuses.

RESPPEC or “Reporting System and Prevention Program for Elder Abuse Cases” will also provide services for the full rehabilitation and recovery of victims.

San Carlos City was chosen as one of the pilot areas in the country for RESPPEC.

The DSWD will provide the technical assistance and funds while San Carlos City will have a local reporting mechanism and referral network in the management of elder abuse cases, to utilize a database and information system for the cases.

The program seeks to lessen the number of abandoned and neglected senior citizens that will be referred to a long-term care facility. (PIA Pangasinan)
