Drug pusher gunned down in police shootout

URDANETA CITY—A suspected drug pusher and gun-for-hire was slain in an encounter with the police, dawn Tuesday during a buy-bust operation in a cemetery in Barangay Poblacion this city.

The operation, conducted by the Urdaneta City Police Station’s Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operation Task Group and Intelligence Section under the supervision of P/Supt. Jeff Fanged, city police chief, in coordination with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Region 1, led to a shootout with Larry Tenefrancia, 57, native of Iloilo City and resident of Barangay Nancamaliran East here.

The suspect had a pending frustrated murder case in April 19, 2016 wherein he was positively identified by the victim.

Initial police investigation showed that when operatives of this station were about to approach the suspect, Tenefrancia pulled out a caliber .45 pistol and fired towards the operatives after he realized the poseur buyer is a police officer.

The police operatives shot back hitting him in different parts of his body.

Recovered from the suspect cash amounting to P230 in different denominations, 21 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu. (Tita Roces)
