3 die, 12 hurt in TPLEX road mishap

ROSALES – Three persons died while 12 others were hurt when the van they were riding turned turtle after it hit shoulder railings while traversing Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway in Barangay Palakipak here heading south last Thursday.

Dead were Leo Salido, 30, Jane Lacerna, 20, and Rona Labor who were rushed to Dr. Chan Hospital at Carmen West here.

Other injured passengers who were rushed to the same hospital are Minda Labor, Dexter Cerbas, Jun Jun Belyera, Anna Labaro, Marian Amorin, Cita Edolan, Arniel Tale, Elyn Mae Melicado, Nolie Cerbas, Quin Roid Matrata and Nerman Manon and the driver Vitaliano Cruz.

The victims are all from Rodriguez, Rizal.

Police investigation showed their Nissan Urvan vehicle with plate number WQU 236 driven by Vitaliano Cruz Jr, 31, resident of #374 Pandayan St., Balete, Rodriguez, Rizal, was heading south direction going to Manila when suddenly its rear-left tire blew causing the vehicle to careen then skidded and hit the concrete railings before plunging into the side of the road and turned turtle.

P/SPO3 Remelio Mendoza, investigator on the case, said the victims work in a footwear company.

They had an outing in Baguio City and dropped by Bauang, La Union and was to head back to Manila when the accident happened.

He said those who died were seated at the rear of the vehicle whose door opened. (Tita Roces)
