URBIZTONDO–The mayor here and three others were charged by an elderly municipal employee at the Prosecutor’s Office in San Carlos City Tuesday for attempted murder and grave threats.

The complainant, Bernabe Samson, 62, resident of Luna St., Poblacion, this town and works as market guard, accused Mayor Martin Raul Sison II of allegedly mauling him inside the mayor’s compound in Barangay Galarin on April 7. Also charged were Cesar Tinyente, Urbano de Vera and Gilbert Aviles.

Samson said Sison accused him of supporting the candidacies of his mayoralty opponent, Mirla Balolong, wife of slain Mayor Ernesto Balolong Jr., and former Rep. Mark Cojuangco (for governor).

Sison was vice mayor when Balolong was killed and he is now running for re-election against Mirla for the May 9 polls.

“After shouting at me, he stood up, held me and strangled me. He also hit my head many times where I was seated,” Samson said in his sworn affidavit as he detailed how he was allegedly mauled by the mayor after he was called to see Sison in his residence.

He also accused the mayor of threatening to kill him. He allegedly pleaded the mayor not to.

He showed local newsmen bruises and contusions he sustained from the mayor’s alleged mauling.

Reached for comments, the mayor’s father, Board Member Raul Sison said, “ It’s okay with us. Anyway Mayor Martin will also file a case.”

The elder Sison said Bernabe used to be with their group.

Bernabe said his family now fears for his life. (Tita Roces)
