Suspected drug pusher killed in police encounter

A TRICYCLE driver, a suspected drug dealer who attempted to shoot it out with police elements who accosted him was shot and killed before he could start shooting at them last Wednesday.

P/Supt. Christopher Abrahano, Dagupan police chief, identified the suspect as Carlo Ubando, a resident of Barangay Pantal here, and one of the drug personalities listed in the police’s drug watch list.

Abrahano said operatives of the Dagupan City Police Station were conducting follow-up operation on a robbery incident when they chanced upon Ubando driving his tricycle wearing a bonnet that covered his face.

The police officers stopped the suspect and as they approached, Ubando pulled out his handgun, a caliber 38 revolver, and aimed at the approaching policemen but before he could start firing, the police officers, with drawn guns, fired at him.

“To neutralize the threat”, said Abrahano.

He added the suspect was immediately brought to the nearby hospital but reportedly died on arrival.

An investigation on the shooting is ongoing at presstime.

“Even though those involved are our colleagues, they are still subject to an investigation for the shooting,” said Abrahano. (Hilda Austria)
