Sen. Pia pitches in for brod Alan’s VP bid

CAMPUS TOUR

LINGAYEN—Sen. Pia Cayetano is pitching in for the vice presidential candidacy of her brother, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, by doing campus tours to reach out to more students and to affirm that her brother is the best choice there is for the country.

“I just do this by sheer faith in what my brother can do and what Mayor (Rodrigo) Duterte can also do,” she told local newsmen Thursday after she held a dialogue with students and faculty members of the Pangasinan State University (PSU) main campus here.

The lady senator is a member of the PSU Board of Regents. She went to Tarlac State University before heading here.

“For me, (it’s) relaying to more people my brother’s message and for them to hear it from myself because I know him best,” she said.

She said she tries to be very logical in her approach, adding that “I can honestly say when you compare Alan with the other candidates, these dreams (of Alan) are grounded with very specific experiences and positions that he has held and fights that he has fought that enabled him to make the commitments he made a reality”.

“And I think as a vice president, there is no one making commitments the way he has with the kind of experience that they (other candidates) have also,” she added.

She said her brother has far more experiences with nine years in Congress, nine years in Senate consistently fighting against corruption. “Factual. Only for that, no one can match him, simple,” she emphasized.

She added she’s a proud ate (elder sister) in the performance of her senator-brother in the recent vice presidential debate where she claimed he won in all the seven segments.

“If he won in four out of seven, as an ate , I would still be proud. But he won seven out seven. To my mind, even if you are not a supporter or believer, you would really be biased if you cannot accept that he is really good,” she said.

On surveys where her brother is not the frontrunner for the vice presidency, Cayetano said when she was running for senator, she was not in the top 12. But she said she came out number six “so sometimes surveys are not reflective, as a candidate, you use it as a guide,” she added.

“But I think like what I told the students, let’s be factual. Look at how Alan talks, look at his record, it’s very factual,” she added. (Tita Roces)
