At least 75 students and out-of-school youths underwent orientation under the Provincial Employment Service Office to prepare them for their tasks as beneficiaries of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES).

Pangasinan-Provincial Employment and Services Office (PESO) will be hiring 75 students for a summer job at the various offices of the provincial government through the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

PESO Chief Alex Ferrer said the students underwent briefing on basic professional conduct and dress code in workplaces last April 13 at the PESO training hall.

The students will be deployed to administrative, clerical, housekeeping and maintenance posts in hospitals and other government offices in Pangasinan for 20 days starting this April 18.

With a cost-sharing scheme of 60 percent from the LGU and 40 percent from the DOLE, each student is fixed at the minimum provincial government rate of P409/day, which is higher than the P253 basic rate in Region 1, which Ferrer pointed out to be of great help for the students to save up for the coming academic year.

To ensure that the grantees are saving up for school, the office requires them to submit a proof of their enrollment.

To qualify for the program, students and out-of-school youth must come from a family with parents’ annual income falling within the annual regional poverty threshold level that is Php 110,000 for Pangasinan and must have obtained passing mark from the previous school term enrolled in.

Another set of 75 SPES grantees will be enlisted to the program in June this year, bringing the total of beneficiaries for the summer period to 150. /PIO/ OJT Laguerta
