FOR CREDIBLE ELECTIONS

ALL the election officers (EOs) in the 44 towns and three cities have been reshuffled since April 1 as part of the preparations for the conduct of fair and honest elections.

Lawyer Joel Gines, officer-in-charge as provincial election supervisor in Pangasinan, said only the EO in Urdaneta remains in his post due to health reasons.

The EOs have been reassigned to other places and will resume their old posts after June 8, Gines said.

Every precinct has three BEIs in 1,500 clustered precincts in the province.

Pangasinan is the third province in the country with the biggest number of voters.

Meanwhile, Gines said close to 9,100 teachers in Pangasinan will perform poll duties in the May 9 polls in the province to form the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) in polling precincts that will assist more than 1.7-million registered voters in the province.

He pointed out that the campaign activities in the province appear to be proceeding smoothly since no candidate has so far filed any complaint against another for violation of the election laws.

The only noted flagrant violation by candidates is the posting of oversized posters and streamers outside of common poster areas and Comelec, he said, has began removing and dismantling these under its ‘Operation Baklas’ in all towns and cities. (Tita Roces)
