DEPUTIZED fish wardens of Dagupan City underwent one-day orientation on their roles and a training for strict enforcement of the provisions of the City Fishery Ordinance and other pertinent laws at the Senior Citizen’s Recreational Center last week.

The training was facilitated by City Agriculture Officer Emma Molina along with the lecturers from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Regional Fisheries Office 1.

The newly deputized fish wardens are with the City Agriculture Office, Bantay Ilog Task Force, City Treasurer’s Office-Market Division, Public Order and Safety Office, Philippine National Police-Dagupan, Philippine National Police-Maritime Group and the Philippine Coast Guard.

During their orientation, they were made to understand their roles as resource conservation partners of the Dagupan city government specifically, how to classify fishing boats and fishing gears; coastal resource management; detection of illegally caught fish; procedural aspect in the apprehension of fishery violators and filing of illegal fishing cases in court; arrest, search and seizure, preservation of evidence and Miranda Doctrine Rights and the grounds for the revocation of authority as deputy fish warden; and the provisions of the Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species.

Each of the deputized fish wardens underwent recognition tests and practicum exercises before they received their certificates of completion.

Their training was in line with Mayor Belen T. Fernandez’s as “Ilog Ko May Pagbabago” program to restore the natural and pristine beauty of the rivers. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
