Balon Dagupan athletes compete in Palarong Pambansa 2016

FORTY Balon Dagupan athletes in secondary and elementary levels are now seeing action in the 2016 Palarong Pambansa at the Bicol University Sports Complex in Albay.

They will compete in basketball, swimming, arnis, bocce, gymnastics, and volleyball.

The Balon Dagupan boys’ basketball team in elementary and secondary levels earned the right to represent the region after winning the gold medals in the R1AA held in San Carlos City while boys and girls teams in swimming, both in elementary and secondary divisions, won the over-all championships. They will be joined by other selected players and swimmers from Region 1

Three elementary pupils of Pantal Elementary School and another from the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS) will compete in arnis;

Kristine Cayabyab and Jenilyn Gamboa of Judge Jose De Venecia Sr. Memorial National High School (JJDVSMNHS) will play with the region’s basketball girls’ team in the secondary level; three gymnasts from East Central Integrated School, DCNHS and JJDVSMNHS will also play in the women’s artistic gymnastics secondary.

Barbie Lynch Vila of Bolosan Elementary School will join the region’s volleyball team elementary girls; while Allen Balanon of SPED-ID will play in bocce.

With them are four DCSC trainers who earlier watched over the training of the athletes from day one up to the competition day.

The Dagupan delegation is headed by Schools Division Superintendent Froserfina J. Bravo, Dagupan City Sports Commissioner Finnela T. Sim, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Lourdes Servito; Education Program Supervisors Venus Maria S. Estonillo and Marissa O. Perez; and Dagupan City Athletic Association (DCAA) president Manuel Ferrer.

Each of the Dagupan athletes, coaches, trainers and delegation officials was given P3,500 by the city government as competition allowance before they were sent off by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez on April 5 at the city plaza. The city made available its two new coasters for their trip to Albay. (JCB_CIO)
