SOME 1,014 inmates who are registered voters in the province will be allowed to vote inside and outside the five Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facilities on May 9.

The five BJMP facilities are in Burgos, Balungao, Dagupan City, San Carlos City and Urdaneta City.

Atty. Kenneth Bid-ing, BJMP Dagupan jail warden, said preparations are underway for the security of the inmates who will be transported to vote in their respective precincts.

BJMP Dagupan houses about 1,000 inmates but only 201 were registered to vote inside the facility and the others will be transported to their respective precincts.

“Only those who were registered inside the facility on or before October 31 last year will cast their votes inside,” said Bid-ing.

However, he clarified it will still be determined who among the inmates can be allowed to vote since security of the inmates will have to be considered.

He said those who have threats on their lives may not be transported although deployment of augmentation forces is part of the contingency plan on May 9.

Expected to vote inside the BJMP facilities are Burgos,123 inmates;, Balungao, 197; San Carlos City, 119; and Urdaneta City, 274. (Hilda Austria)
