URDANETA CITY— What has Daang Matuwid done for Pangasinan?

President Benigno Aquino III had this to say: His five-year administration has provided the province P20.13 billion infrastructure projects, a program that is double the program of the Arroyo administration.

Mr. Aquino said his predecessor, former President Gloria Arroyo, who claims to be a Pangasinense, could only deliver P9.77-billion worth of infrastructure projects for Pangasinan.

Ako po, hindi ko naman inangkin na taga-dito ako sa inyo, pero mula 2011 hanggang 2016, limang taon ding pinag-usapan, dinoble natin ang P9 billion niya,” he said, and these were for bridges, airport, port, health facilities, flood control projects, among others.

He cited the completed Section 1 of Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) that has cut travel time from Tarlac City to Rosales to less than 30 minutes, and Section 2 of TPLEX from Rosales to Urdaneta City.

“Once the entire section of TPLEX is finished, travel from our place in Tarlac City up to Rosario, La Union that used to take three and a half hours would only be one hour that will boost tourism,” he said.

He added that the widening of the Manila North Road is ongoing to ease travel going to the North as he pointed out that the improvement of Pangasinan-Tarlac Road and the Pangasinan-Zambales Road that are ongoing as well.

He also cited the concreting of the Pangasinan-Nueva Vizcaya Road.

To support fishery and agriculture in Pangasinan, the President said fish ports were built in Anda, Bolinao and Santiago while more than P9.96 billion were spent for the construction of farm-to-market roads and various irrigation systems through the Agno River Irrigation System Extension or ARISEP that amounted to P2.6 billion.

Aquino was in the city for the turnover of newly built classrooms for Urdaneta 1 Central School funded by the Philippine Games and Amusement Corporation. (Tita Roces)
