National team pulls away
PNG CHAMPIONSHIPS
LINGAYEN– The National Team maintained its lead in the Philippine National Games (PNG) national championships though there was a shake up in the standing from second to eighth places up and until 10:30 a.m. of March 11.
The nationals continued to pull away with 82 gold, 19 silver and 13 bronze medals based on the results in archery, chess, dancesport, swimming, taekwondo, weightlifting and wrestling.
Up to this writing, the finals of many more games have yet been undecided.
So far, the Philippine team already collected five gold medals in archery, nine in chess, two in dancesport, eight in swimming, 18 in taekwondo, 30 in weightlifting and 10 in wrestling.
In second place is Cebu City with 20 gold, 15 silver and 22 bronze, relegating Baguio City to third place with 19 gold, eight silver and seven bronze medals.
Zamboanga jumped from fifth place to fourth with 10 gold, 22 silver and 15 bronze medals, overtaking Manila which is now in fifth place with 10 gold, two silver and four bronze medals.
Pangasinan jumped one rung higher to sixth place with seven gold medals, one of which from dancesport, and six in weightlifting, aside from two silver and four bronze medals.
The host province is so far the highest-ranking province in the standing among all entries of Region 1.
Hungduan Ifugao trails Pangasinan and is now in seventh place, from eighth the day before with six gold, six silver and four bronze medals.
The biggest gainer in the standing was Bohol Province being in eighth place from 20th before after bagging six gold five silver and one bronze medals, all in weightlifting.
Koronadal City was relegated to ninth place from sixth the previous day with five gold, six silver and three bronze medals.
University of the East is now 10th in the standing with five gold, five silver and four bronze medals while La Union is 11th with four gold, three silver and two bronze medals, followed by the Philippine Air Force at four gold medals.
