Dagupan’s R1AA medal winners receive cash incentives

AFTER holding a motorcade with Mayor Belen Fernandez along the downtown area, winners in the just concluded Region 1 Athletic Association Meet in San Carlos City and their respective coaches converged at CSI Stadia on March 2 to receive their cash incentives from the city government for winning the first runner-up honor.

 The city’s athletes received P3,000 for every gold medal, P1,200 for every silver, and P800 for every bronze medal that they won while their coaches received P3,000 each.

Schools Division Superintendent Froserfina J. Bravo and Mayor Fernandez led the awarding of cash incentives to the athletes during a victory party tendered in their honor in the week-long meet.

“This is a sweet victory for us. We were able to prove that we did the right thing in supporting our athletes,” said a jubilant Mayor Fernandez.

“We will continue to encourage our children to go into sports,” she said and assured that the city government will allocate P3 million more for athletes’ development including more incentives for coaches.

For the first time, the Balon Dagupan team finished second best in the over-all official ranking in the Region 1 Athletic Association Meet held in San Carlos City, Pangasinan with 44 gold, 38 silver, 38 bronze medals, placing second in the standing to back-to-back overall winner, Pangasinan 2.

It was number seven in the 2015 R1AA meet held in Manaoag.

Dagupan City was declared champion in the elementary level with 20 gold, 17 silver and 18 bronze medals and first runner-up in the secondary level with 24 gold, 21 silver and 20 bronze medals.

Paulo Rioflorido, Sean Iverson Fabiana and Janela Lin each earned seven gold medals in swimming and went home with P21,000 each. (Leonardo Micua)
