LINGAYEN—Pangasinan is set to host the 2016 Philippine National Games (PNG) next month.

This was decided after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) approved provincial resolution No. 1899-2016 during their regular session last Monday authorizing Governor Amado Espino Jr. to enter into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) represented by its commissioner in-charge, Jose Luis Gomez, for the said hosting.

The 2016 PNG will be held on March 7-11, 2016.

The PNG is a national multi-sport tournament in the country conducted annually by the PSC to promote physical fitness and sports development in the country.

He said Board Member Amado ‘Pogi’ Espino III filed the resolution in support of the Espino administration’s thrust for sports development in the province.

He said the provincial government is confident it can help stage a successful PNG given Pangasinan’s track record having hosted the Palarong Pambansa in 2012, Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) National Open in 2009, National Milo Olympics in 2011, Region I Athletics Association (RIAA) in 2013, the OSKA Shikodan Philippines All Shorin-Ryu National Karate-do Tournament in 2013.
