WHITE POWDER INSIDE SEALED DRUM

LINGAYEN—What was suspected to be a drum full of illegal drug substance found off the coastal water of Dasol town, proved to be negative, based on initial tests conducted by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office’s crime laboratory.

The provincial police, however, forwarded the sample of the white powder to the crime laboratory in Camp Crame in Quezon City for further testing.

P/Sr. Superintendent Edgar Allan Okubo, officer-in-charge at the PPPO as acting police director, confirmed the negative findings to newsmen last Monday.

He said he is not aware of the kind of substance inside a blue drum found floating off the coastal water in Dasol and will still await the results of the test conducted by Camp Crame.

He added they are still looking into the possible source of the drum that was found floating.

Meanwhile, Okubo said all police stations along the coastal areas were alerted to mobilize their Bantay Dagat teams following the retrieval of the blue drum and ordered checkpoints to watch out for movements by suspected drug syndicates.

It was Dasol Mayor Noel Nacar who alerted The PUNCH Saturday night about the find of a fisherman along the coastal area in Barangay Hermosa of a sealed drum, about two feet high, that was found to contain white fine powder.

It will be recalled that on Nov. 5, 1999, about 426 kilos of shabu contained in different blue containers were found floating along the coastal area in Barangay Bayambang in Infanta town. (Tita Roces)
