MOCK POLLS

CALASIAO–The Provincial Elections Office will hold mock elections simultaneously in two barangays each in Dagupan City and in Alaminos City on February 13.

Provincial Elections Supervisor Marino Salas said the mock elections will be participated in by at least 100 voters in each of Barangays Pugaro and Poblacion in Dagupan City, and Limmansangan and Poblacion Weste in Alaminos City.

The mock election will test the more modern Vote Counting Machines (VCM) that will replace the Precinct Count Optical Scans (PCOS) machines used in the 2010 and 2013 elections.

The voters will choose from the list of assumed names of candidates for president, vice president, senators, representatives, mayor and vice mayor, and 10 councilors in case of Dagupan City and governor, vice governor and two district board members as well as mayor, vice mayor and 10 councilors in case of Alaminos City.

The mock election, said Salas, will be a simulation of the conduct of regular election, from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the results will also be transmitted from barangay to city level as well as to the provincial office and onto the Comelec central office.

Comelec Regional Director Noli Pipo called on candidates representing political parties as well as representatives of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) to observe and monitor the performance of the VCM.

The VCM uses the more advanced Micro SD, equivalent to the memory card in PCOS. (Leonardo Micua)
