The healing magic of MediKalinga sa Pangasinan

COJUANGCO UPDATES

POOR Pangasinenses can now look forward to a sustained year-round medical care and assistance through the MediKalinga sa Pangasinan program.

So far, more than 18,000 indigent patients across the province have received and benefitted from the medical-surgical-dental care through its novel assistance program.

Elated at the success of the project, former Pangasinan fifth district Congressman Mark Cojuangco, the man behind the project, said he and Calasiao Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay will institutionalize this health program if elected as governor and vice-governor in the May 9, 2016 elections.

“We will make it official. We will continue it,” Cojuangco said in a recent interview in his residence in Sison town.

Cojuangco said he intends to set aside an annual budget for the MediKalinga if he becomes governor. He has been providing personal funds for the project launched in August 2014 that has since been holding regular medical-dental-surgical safaris reaching out to indigent patients across Pangasinan.

Macanlalay has been a vital partner of Cojuangco in this mission. Patients troop to his family-owned building in Barangay Bued, Calasiao for screening and other requirements to avail of medical help, including surgery.

Barangay Health Workers, who have a big heart for the sick and the needy, serve as front liners in reaching out to poor people who have long been suffering from various ailments and without access to medical care.

City, municipal, barangay officials and many other unsung heroes who join Cojuangco and Macanlalay in their crusade have vowed their continued support.

Under the MediKalingare program, indigent patients seeking medical attention, especially those suffering from cyst, hernia, myoma, hemmorhoids, cleft palate, goiter, among others, that require surgery are assisted, absolutely free of charge.

Keziah Mae is the youngest of eight siblings, whose father goes around daily to buy empty bottles and other junk items for a living, while her mom augments their family income by selling isaw, a popular street food.

Despite poverty, Keziah Mae wants to be a doctor to help the sick. But she had hernia.
