LINGAYEN – To further improve the productivity of Pangasinan farmers, the provincial government will support the construction and repair of irrigation projects in the province.

Last week, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan authorized Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. to enter into agreements with farmers associations for the implementation of the irrigation projects that will increase irrigated areas and improve farmers’ productivity.

In a resolution, Board Member Antonio Sison said the implementation of communal irrigation system and installation of shallow tube well irrigation projects will also serve as a mitigating measure to the projected long dry spell due to the El Niño phenomenon.

Sison said the provincial board authorized Espino to enter into an agreement with Irrigators Association or Farmers Association project beneficiaries to promote and develop the sustainability of irrigation development projects in the province. (PIA Pangasinan/EBS)
