Politics takes a backseat. Bravo!

COJUANGCO UPDATES

BINMALEY successfully hosted a happy and friendly encounter between former Pangasinan fifth district Rep. Mark Cojuangco and Board Member Amado Espino III during the 426th town fiesta celebration on Jan. 28 for the Barangay Night.

As written on a big screen flashed in the middle of the stage at the public auditorium that served as the backdrop of the event, Cojuangco was the special guest while Espino was the guest of honor and speaker.

As tradition dictates, the Barangay Night gives due respect to whoever is the president of the provincial federation president of the Liga ng mga Barangay as the guest of honor and speaker for this annual reunion of village officials in town/city fiestas.

Cojuangco and Espino are both seeking the gubernatorial post in the May 9 elections.

Obviously, eyes were focused on the two top guests during the celebration.

Prior to the start of the program, the two contenders were seated beside each other at the presidential table exchanging pleasantries with Mayor Simplicio “Sammy” Rosario. Their vice gubernatorial partners, Calasiao Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay (for Cojuangco) and Vice Gov. Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr (for Espino) were with them in the event.

Comebacking Second District Board Member Von Mark Mendoza with another board member aspirant Butch Merrera were there, too.

As the celebration officially started, Espino transferred to his seat at the presidential table but nonetheless the jolly atmosphere among the guests and barangay officials pervaded.

Both Cojuangco and Espino displayed humility and sportsmanship, giving proper acknowledgment to each other in their respective speeches that delighted the crowd.

While the two gentlemen gave hints about their aspirations, they avoided discussing partisan politics.

The audience cheered the main guests with even, equal candor.

What a night to remember. Vice Mayor Pete Merrera wowed the crowd with his Michael Jackson dance number, accompanied by his mascot and other back-up dancers.

Not to be outdone, Mayor Sammy Rosario was joined by the barangay captains on stage while the rest, led by Rosario’s wife, Lorna Grace, stood up in the middle of the auditorium as they sang, while holding hands, “Hawak Kamay” popularized by singer Yeng Constantino. The song speaks about holding on together as they journey towards success.

Showing how prepared he was for the event, after Cojuangco spoke, he and The Voice Kids qualifier Giedie Laroco from Dagupan City, impressed the crowd with their duet of another hit song “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang”. Then Laroco belted out more songs, with the audience and guests, including Cojuangco, taking on the dance floor.

The town’s Liga ng mga Barangay president Arsenio Merrera, standing on stage, also brought with him two lovely singers with powerful voices that serenaded the people.

It was indeed a sparkling night for a truly memorable fiesta, when politics took a backseat to the delight of everybody.

Bravo! More! More!
