THE surviving World War II veterans were honored again by the provincial government during the observance and celebration of the Pangasinan Veterans Day last January 9.

The memorial services, led by Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr., were preceded by a Thanksgiving Mass, wreath-laying ceremony and a commemorative program honoring the sacrifices and heroism of the war veterans at Veterans Memorial Park at the Capitol compound.

A medical mission for the veterans and their children was also part of the yearly event.

Gov. Espino said the event is held annually also to celebrate the 71st Anniversary of the Lingayen Gulf Landings to commemorate the historic event when United States General Douglas MacArthur and his allied forces landed on the shores of Pangasinan on January 9, 1945 to liberate the Philippines from Japanese occupation.

The annual celebration, the province’s first major event every year, was attended by surviving World War II veterans and their families, officials of the Philippine Veterans Bank. (VHS/PIA-1/Pangasinan)
