More DA projects pledged to Pangasinan

MORE infrastructure projects will be built by the Department of Agriculture (DA) in the province in partnership with the local government units (LGU) to further boost agricultural production.

This was bared by Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, accompanied by Gov. Amado Espino Jr. and DA Regional Director Valentin Perdido, in a forum attended by some 3,000 farmers last Jan. 26 at the Umingan Municipal Auditorium.

Alcala said more agri projects will be implemented, including a 2.35 kilometer road and other agricultural support facilities.

The farmers were joined by Mayors Eldred Tumbocon of Umingan and Philip Peralta of Balungao.

After the forum, Alcala turned over one 4WD 90 HP Tractor, two four-wheel tractors, four hand tractors and 31pump and engine sets 7HP to the farmers’ groups.

Also turned over were farm equipment which include 4 knapsack power sprayer, 15 pump and engine sets, 10 carabaos with farm implements and 9 native piglets.

The DA official likewise announced that as soon as bidding is completed, DA will provide local farmers with additional solar water pumps, adding that the 2.35 kilometer farm-to-market road to be built in Umingan will benefit 13 barangays.

Mr. Alcala was gratified to note that DA’s small water impounding projects (SWIPs) have been properly utilized by farmers in Balungao and Umingan.

Mayor Tumbocon acknowledged the assistance provided by DA particularly infrastructure projects, including access roads that enabled farmers to transport their products to the market easier.

Gov. Espino said his administration will continue to support Umingan so that it can maintain its reputation as the “bread basket” of Pangasinan.

He said that in anticipation of the El Nino phenomenon, the provincial government will soon distribute 183 tube wells so that farmers can keep up with their planting calendar this year. (Leonardo Micua)
