Three die in Christmas shooting incidents

SAN CARLOS CITY—Two persons were gunned down while two others, including a former policeman, were wounded on Christmas Eve in separate shooting incidents in Pangasinan.

Denver Matabang, 32, married, resident of Barangay Bega was shot dead while Rodolfo Resuello Jr., 38, resident of Barangay Pagal both in this city was wounded.

P/Superintendent Charlie Umayam, city police chief, said that while the victims were having drinking spree inside a kubo (nipa hut) at the premises of Resuello’s residence in Barangay Pagal, an unidentified suspect shot them.

Matabang was hit in the back while Resuello sustained gunshot wound on his left foot believed with the use of M16 armalite rifle based on evidence recovered at the crime scene.

Matabang was brought to Pangasinan Provincial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival while Resuello was rushed to Pangasinan Doctors Hospital for his medical treatment.

Recovered at scene of the crime were one empty shell and one live ammunition and one long magazine of M16 loaded with 28 live ammunition.

In Calasiao town, Rommel Lopez, 45, married and resident of Sitio Bakul, Malabago was also shot dead in said barangay also on Christmas Eve.

He was driving his motorcycle going to the town proper when he was tailed by the suspects.

He sustained five gunshot wounds and was brought to the nearest hospital by responding police officers but he was declared dead on arrival.

Investigators recovered one spent shell and two deformed slugs of caliber .45 firearm at the crime scene.

In Dagupan City, Ferdinand dela Cruz, 38, fisherman was wounded in a separate shooting incident at around 1:00 a.m. yesterday (Dec. 25) in Barangay Calmay, Dagupan City.

P/Superintendent Christopher Abrahano, city police chief, said the suspect Alvaro Queliza, 44, a fishpond caretaker used an unknown caliber of firearm.

Dela Cruz was brought to the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City for medical treatment.

The suspects in all three shooting incidents fled.

In Bayambang, a 34-year old laborer was wounded after he was hit by a stray bullet while celebrating Christmas Eve in Barangay Telbang.

P/Superintendent Gregorio Galsim, the town police chief, said the victim, Danilo Carpio, was seated while having a drinking spree with his brothers-in-law when his left thigh was hit by a stray bullet from an unknown direction.

Carpio’s drinking buddies said they have not heard burst of gunfire.

Investigators who conducted ocular inspection were unable to locate the trajectory of the bullet since the roofing of the house is made up of nipa (coconut leaves) and partly galvanized roof. (Tita Roces)
