IN cycling, expect the unexpected.

Pangasinan’s best riders were badly trounced in the Sta. Barbara bikefest last December 6 by five of 10 Metro Manila contestants.

Tour veterans Ysmael Gendrano and Resty Aragon crossed the finish line in a breakaway fashion, while three Romeo Camingao, Anecito Junio and Ruel Gendrano took third, fourth and fifth place, respectively, to bag the major cash prizes, trophies and medals donated by Alex Billan of Excellent Noodles.

The best that Tomas Doot of Mangaldan could do was take the sixth slot place while Richard Seismundo of Sto. Tomas, Raul Ellasus and Diony Aquino of Mangaldan in 9th and 10th respectively. Loreto Mandi of Gerona, Tarlac took the 8th place.

Gendrano and Aragon clocked the 106-kilometer flat road trek in two hours, 38 minutes and two seconds passing some barangays of Mapandan and Urdaneta City.

The bikefest with 34 starters and exclusively for 37 years old and above was flagged off by the town’s police chief PCI Pagaduan. The cycling road saga is another sports project of the town’s chief executive Carlito S. Zaplan for the celebration of the host town fiesta. (Jesus Garcia, Jr.)
