DUE TO BAD HABIT

A few hours after she escaped from the Provincial Jail in Lingayen, a 33-year-old woman found herself locked in another prison. Her mistake – to immediately return to her interrupted livelihood  – selling shabu.

The suspect, Estrellita Laglayera, alias Jonna, was arrested along with Rommel Concepcion, 29, of Mabini Street in Binmaley at 5.30 p.m. of November 13 in Barangay Bonuan Binloc while attempting to make a sale to PO2 Lamberto Ferrer who acted as poseur-buyer.

The two were arrested by intelligence agents of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (CAIDSOTG) headed by Senior Inspector Bernabe Ramos under the supervision of Supt. Christopher Abrahano, not realizing that they had arrested an escapee.

SPO2 Ferrer, reportedly with the help of a confidential asset, arranged a meeting with suspect Concepcion and informed him of his desire to buy shabu.

Upon arrival at a designated place in Bonuan Binloc, Ferrer was met by Concepcion, already accompanied by his live-in partner Laglayera.

Thereupon, they immediately began to negotiate the sale.

Ferrer handed the marked P100 bills to Concepcion and in turn, Laglayera handed one heat-sealed plastic sachet containing shabu to Ferrer.

After the exchanges, on a pre-arranged signal, both Concepcion and Laglayera were immediately arrested by other police officers who were watching the proceedings from a distance.

Also seized from Laglayera were two other sachets of suspected shabu.

The suspects were brought to the Region 1 Medical Center for medico-legal examination and later turned over to the main office of the Dagupan City Police Station for proper disposition and filing of appropriate cases.

After photographs and confiscation receipt were accomplished, the duo was finally lodged in jail, and the verification of records by the Dagupan City Police proceeded.

It was then that Laglayera was discovered to have escaped from the provincial jail in Lingayen earlier that day.
A case for violation of Article  II Sec 5 and Sec II is now being readied by the police against the suspects.  (Leonardo Micua)
