LINGAYEN— Re-electionist Senator Teofisto ‘TG’ Guingona III vowed his support for the continuity of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the national government despite growing criticisms of the program.

If he wins a senatorial seat anew, Mr. Guingona said he will seek to legislate the law that institutionalize the conditional cash transfer program.

The senator, speaking before the local officials of Lingayen town last week, said there is a pending proposal in the Senate to ensure that 4Ps will be continued regardless of who will lead the administration next year.

Wala namang programang ginawa ang tao na perpekto… Ayusin natin ang problema pero ipagpatuloy natin,” he said, recognizing the issues being raised against the program particularly the misuse of the funds by some beneficiaries.

The 4Ps “provides conditional cash grants to the poorest of the poor, to improve the health, nutrition, and the education of children aged 0-18.”

The solon noted that the positive impact of the program outweighs the negative as evidenced by the increase in the number of children of indigent families in school.

He also said the number of maternal death in the country, which he said was highest in the world, has improved since the program advocates the regular checkup in rural health units and facility-based delivery.

Guingona also said he will also support the continuity of the Bottom-up Budgeting (BUB).

Guingona is currently the chairman of the Senate’s Committees on Accountability of Public Officers and Investigations of the Senate of the Philippines or the Blue Ribbon on Health.

The senator also consulted other sectors in other Second District towns accompanied by unopposed Pangasinan Second District Cong. Leopoldo Bataoil, a fellow Liberal Party member. (Johanne Macob)
