STA.,BARBARA—The provincial government is set to construct 183 shallow tube wells and 32 water impounding dams across Pangasinan in preparation for El Nino which is expected to be felt till the first quarter of 2016.

Gov, Amado Espino Jr. said the provincial government will allocate P60 million for these projects and other projects in order to mitigate the effects of El Nino and still allow farmers to plant their crops in their farms.

The governor learned from Dr. Valentin Perdido, regional director of the Department of Agriculture (DA) field office that Pangasinan and its adjacent provinces are among the areas being threatened by El Nino, which already started in some parts of the country.

Mr. Espino ordered Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay Moya to make a study and submit recommendations where the shallow tube wells will be put up starting January next year.

DA Regional Director Perdido said cloud-seeding to trigger rains can be done if the provincial government will request for it. (Leonardo Micua)
