COJUANGCO UPDATES

FORMER Pangasinan Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco and his lovely wife, Rep. Kimi Cojuangco, shared their dream for the elderly across Pangasinan – to build a senior citizens’ building in every town or city.

Speaking during the Senior Citizens’ Day in Binalonan on Nov. 18, the former congressman said a society that does not know how to repay the love and sacrifices of the elderly.

The 58-year old gubernatorial aspirant for the 2016 polls, who is two years short of becoming a senior citizen, said he is blessed and lucky to have enjoyed material things in life but he wants to feel a deeper meaning and purpose.

He said material things are meaningless unless his blessings are shared primarily by helping others, like the senior citizens, especially now that the time has come for him to stand up for this purpose when he filed his candidacy.

He said his father, business tycoon and former ambassador Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco Jr, is already in his 80s while his mom is in her 70s. The young Cojuangco said, they, like the rest of the elderly, need more than ever enough time, love and care.

He said if by destiny he would reach Lingayen in his gubernatorial bid, one of Cojuangco’s plans for the elderly is the construction of a comfortable senior citizens’ building in each town or city in Pangasinan.

“The enemy of being an elderly is loneliness,” he said.

By providing a building of their own, Cojuangco said the elderly would have a place where they would gather together or celebrate special occasions like their birthdays.

Cojuangco said all the member-senior citizens in a town/city can have monthly joint birthday celebrations where their respective local government unit could help.

His wife Kimi said she is all-out with the idea and lauded her husband for designing and funding his dream from his congressional funds a beautiful senior citizens edifice in Sison town built when she was mayor.

“Why did he do it? Because he has the same belief that all senior citizens must be given due respect and provided with all the needed help in whatever possible means,” the congresswoman said.

The couple, with Calasiao Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay, Cojuangco’s running mate, made the Senior Citizens’ Day celebration in Binalonan extra meaningful and happy by extending their “karinyo” (as described by the congresswoman) to the elder.
