‘Kuya ng Bayan’, Mar Roxas, returns to Dagupan with a promise!

FORMER Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas said the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps), a key poverty alleviation program of the Aquino administration, will continue and will be further enhanced under his presidency to further improve the lives of the less privileged citizens of the country.

Speaking at forums held in Dagupan, San Carlos City and Rosales, the 4Ps must be enhanced and not phased out as suggested by some candidates because, according to him, it has succeeded in becoming an important instrument to enable poor Filipinos to fulfill their dreams,” said Roxas when he had a dialogue with vendors at the Malimgas Public Market.

He reiterated the same in his meeting with members and officers of various Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) in 48 towns and cities of Pangasinan in a forum sponsored by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) at CSI Stadia.

He then motored to San Carlos City and Rosales in the company of Reps. Gina de Venecia, Rosemary ‘Baby’ Arenas and Marlyn Agabas where mammoth crowds of supporters also awaited him.

More innovations will be introduced to the 4Ps so the beneficiaries of the cash transfer program will get more support from the government, he added.

Alongside the 4Ps, the Philippine Health Insurance will be further strengthened so that the poor people will not worry if they and members of their families get sick.

At an earlier radio interview, Roxas said the example made by Dagupan is worth emulating by the whole nation because under the Bottoms Up Budgeting (BUB), its fishermen asked not for anything else but fish finder gadgets to guide them where the bigger schools of fish can be found and need not roam around the sea anymore to look for the fishes to catch.

With the fish finders, the fishermen need not spend much fuel for their boats anymore as their gadgets will tell them where to find more fishes.

At the same time, Roxas lauded Mayor Belen Fernandez who launched impact programs and projects that enabled Dagupan to win the seal of good governance and several other distinguished national awards this year by simply following the “matuwid na daan” (straight path).

Roxas said the “Daang Matuwid” program has achieved many meaningful results and should be allowed to continue to further improve the lives of the Filipino people.

At the same time, he lauded members of the TODA who volunteered to help the police and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) maintain the peace and implement rules and regulation to ensure that communities and the streets will be safe.

In Rosales, Roxas was endorsed to the people of the sixth district of Pangasinan by Abono partylist Representative Conrado Estrella III, a move seen to have caused a crack in Abono whose chairman Rosendo So is rooting for Senator Grace Poe. (Leonardo Micua)
