LINGAYEN—A government doctor in Western Pangasinan Doctor’s Hospital (WPDH) located in Alaminos City is in hot waters following a complaint for his alleged rudeness which was posted on Facebook that was shared more than 2, 000 times by netizens.

The complaint, posted on the Facebook account of Mark Anthony Rios with the picture of Dr. Vic Tongson on November 2, was based on an incident at the WPDH where a member of the Rios family was allegedly refused treatment.

According to Rios, Dr. Tongson rudely declined to accept his sister suffering from Hypokalemia, a condition wherein patient suffers weakness and numbness of the body due to deficiency of potassium in the body.

Nung dinala namin ang sister ko from Alaminos Doctor’s Hospital papuntang WPDH para dun siya i-admit hindi man lang siya tinignan at ang sabi ng doctor na to sa asawa ko eh wag na kami doon, dahil walang kwarto, dun na lang daw kami sa pinanggalingan naming ospital”, Rios said.

Rios and his family were from Quezon City vacationing in the province when the incident happened.

Dr. Anna Theresa De Guzman, provincial health officer said they are already conducting investigation on the alleged discourteous action of Tongson.

“We have already issued a memorandum to Dr. Tongson asking for his explanation for us to hear both sides of the story and after our initial investigation, we will set up a meeting between the two parties”, said De Guzman.

“WPDH is a level one hospital which is undergoing upgrade and there are some cases which are beyond its capacity as a level one hospital but with the case of the Rios family, we are investigating it first before we make any conclusion,” said De Guzman.

“We do not tolerate rudeness to patients but as doctors and public servants it is our mandate to be considerate and understanding to the patients”, said De Guzman.

She added, “If we see violation on the part of Dr. Tongson, we will endorse the case to the provincial legal office for further actions”. (Hilda Austria)
