A SEED capital of P1.805 million was turned over to the city government by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) last week under its Self-Employment Assistance Kaunlaran or SEA-K program.

City Social Welfare and Development officer-in-charge Leah Aquino received the check for the city government.

Aquino said 361 beneficiaries will benefit from the fund, each one of whom will receive P5,000 as seed capital for their respective livelihood projects.

In March last year, some 200 women also received fund support for their small-scale livelihood projects like food processing, sewing, cosmetology, among others.

Aquino said the fund will allow women belonging to poor families in the city to become entrepreneurs so they can help provide for the financial needs of their families and become productive.

The program intends to enhance the socio-economic skills of poor families through the organization of community-based associations for entrepreneurial development.

The members of these associations are given group session modules on self-enhancement, volunteerism and leadership to build their capabilities and confidence for them to become self-reliant. (CIO)
