LINGAYEN—A businessman riding his motorcycle was shot dead by still unidentified hitmen-riding-in-tandem along the provincial road in Barangay (village) Calepaan in Asingan town.

At about 1 a.m., the victim identified as Florante Mercado was riding his motorcycle when the motorcycle-riding suspects that tailed him, shot him several times on his back causing his death, police report said.

Initial investigation of the Asingan Police Station revealed four gunshot wounds on Mercado’s back.

Mercado, a 47-year-old businessman from Zone lll, Brgy. Nancalobasaan, Urdaneta City, reportedly came from a wake in Brgy. Calepaan, Asingan.

Recovered from the crime scene were seven spent shells of caliber .45 gun and two deformed bullets.

Dragnet Operation is still ongoing in adjacent towns. Motive for the killing has not been established at presstime. (Johanne Macob)
