1st Aliwan sa Balon Dagupan to spur the 2016 City Fiesta opening day

THE celebration of the 2016 City Fiesta on the theme “Happy City, Happy Family” will formally start on December 4 with the launching of the 1st Aliwan sa Balon Dagupan Street dancing competition and parade.
The competition will be open to public and private schools and universities including other non-government organizations and the 31 barangays.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the best three groups who will be judged on how well they execute their choreographed dance steps as they dance and march along the route of the parade on the opening day. Special awards will be given to the biggest and most colorful delegation.
To qualify, each contingent must have at least dancers.
“The participants will be judged accordingly as they dance through the streets up to the city plaza. Judges will be positioned in undisclosed locations along the parade route,” said this year’s Hermano Mayor Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo.
Dr. Edwin Aguirre, head of the 2016 City Fiesta Secretariat, said the high school and elementary dancers will assemble at Guilig Street while the dancers coming from the 31 barangays and the NGOs will assemble at Burgos Street.
“The dancers will dance to the same music to be played along the parade route,” he said.
From 8,000 to 10,000 people are expected to line up the city’s streets during the opening ceremony to watch the parade that will start from the Perez Boulevard and Burgos Street intersection and will end in front of the city plaza where a giant Christmas tree will be put up.
“From there, we will light the giant Christmas tree in a simple ceremony before we announce the winners of the Aliwan sa Balon Dagupan competition,” added Tamayo.
The Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir will then sing Christmas Carols in a mini concert under the Christmas tree.
“This is another first for our city which aims to inspire our young people to use their God-given talent in cheer-dancing in a happy competition. I got this idea when I attended the cheering competition of the students of Dagupan City National High School during the school’s Founding Day,” said Mayor Belen T. Fernandez. (CIO)
