17 LGUs vie for Aktibo ed Turismo Awards

LINGAYEN – Seventeen (17) local government units are vying for this year’s Aktibo ed Turismo Awards.

The awards program, a pet project of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. aims to recognize towns and cities that contributed greatly to the development and promotion of tourism and cultural and special events.

Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Ma. Luisa A. Elduayan, said nominees this year are Agno, Alaminos City, Anda, Balungao, Bayambang, Bautista, Binmaley, Bolinao, Burgos, Calasiao, Dasol, Infanta, Mangaldan, Natividad, San Fabian, Sta. Maria, and Tayug. LGU Alaminos bagged the championship last year.

The province has been celebrating Pangasinan Tourism Month every September since 2009 in support of the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) call to create a global platform that will underscore tourism’s potential and real contribution to advance social and economic progress.

Since then, the Espino administration endeavored to launch innovative strategies through intensified programs and projects that are focused on strengthening tourism, culture, and arts potential of Pangasinan.

Prizes for winners include cash prize of P200,000 for the Champion, P150,000 for the second prize and P100,000 will go to the 3rd placer. Cash prize of P50,000 each will be awarded to the four finalists while three special awards of P30,000 will also be given. 

All participating LGUs will each receive P10,000 consolation prize.

Awarding ceremony for this year will be held on the second week of December. (RRB/PIO)
